Open-Faced Hot Honey and Ham Grilled Cheese

Sometimes called a toastie, Open-Faced Hot Honey and Ham Grilled Cheeses have Dijon, ham, arugula, apples. pepper, and a hot honey drizzle. Plus, two Roth cheeses: Gouda & Havarti.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices hearty white bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter, very soft
  • 4 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup Roth Creamy Havarti cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Roth Gouda cheese, shredded
  • 16 slices thinly sliced ham
  • 1 Honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • 2 cups baby arugula
  • Hot honey, for drizzling

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Spread butter evenly on one side of bread and toast for 3 to 4 minutes, or until golden brown. 
  2. Remove from oven, turn the bread over, and spread another thin layer of butter. Toast for another 3 to 4 minutes. 
  3. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each slice of bread. Top with shredded cheese, 2 slices of ham, and apple slices. Add a little more cheese to help hold it all together. Put back in the oven for another 6 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is toasted and golden brown. 
  4. Grind black pepper over each piece of toast. Add a handful of arugula and a generous drizzle of hot honey.
